本书是参照1980年5月在上海举行的高等学校理科数学、力学、天文学教材编审委员会扩大会议上讨论并审订的《代数拓扑学教学大纲》编写的，并在教学中经几次试用修改而成。 全书内容包括：必要的点集拓扑知识，映射的同伦和基本群，单纯复形及其单纯同调群，拓扑空间的奇异同调群，同调群的一些应用，最后有一个关于集合、群和交换群、线性欧氏空间的附录。内容基本上是自包含的。 本书可供综合大学和高等师范数学系作为教学用书，也可供需要代数拓扑学知识的科技人员、教师参考。 本书于1987年出版，恰逢高等教育出版社建社60周年，甲午重印，以飨读者。
